Hello Mr. Sarkar,
I`ve got an eror message.
Error: Package: minizip-1.2.7-10.fc19.i686 (fedora)
Requires: zlib = 1.2.7-10.fc19
Installed: zlib-1.2.8-3.fc20.i686 (installed)
zlib = 1.2.8-3.fc20
Available: zlib-1.2.7-10.fc19.i686 (fedora)

You can try using –skip-broken to work around the problem.
You could try: rpm-Va – nofiles – nodigest
Can you help me to resolve the problem?
Thanks in advance!
It looks like you are using a more recent version of the required dependencies. Ideally it shouldn’t be much of a problem if you skip the dependencies. You may try doing yum install vlc mozilla-vlc -skip broken to see if that solves the issue.
I have got an error
“No vlc package found
Error: Nothing to do.”
Have you tried doing #rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
[myusername@localhost ~]$ $su
[myusername@localhost ~]$ #rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
[myusername@localhost ~]$ #yom install vlc mozilla-vlc
[myusername@localhost ~]$
Umm nothing happend………….
opps couple things wrong figured it out, its redundant and its yum not yom lol
thanx….u made so easy……..
i cant open vlc player
Could you please be a bit more specific about the problem that you are facing?

“system-release >= 19 is needed by rpmfusion-free-release-19-1.noarch” Message displayed when I tried to install VLC Player in Fedora 20.
You should try to update rpmfusion and then try again.
says a public key is missing so that can’t complete the installation.. wot 2 do?
Could you please copy over the error message so that I have a better idea about the problem?
and by the way i’m using fedora 18
hi Sayak Sarkar
i need offline vlc player i dont have internet connection plz tell the procedure
Hey Prasad,
Once you install vlc, it’s quite usable offline. However, you do need an internet connection to download the requisite packages during the installation.
Man, got the following error message. And then…?
–> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Package: vlc-core-2.1.4-4.fc21.i686 (rpmfusion-free-rawhide)
Requires: libass.so.5
Error: Package: vlc-core-2.1.4-4.fc21.i686 (rpmfusion-free-rawhide)

Error: Package: vlc-core-2.1.4-4.fc21.i686 (rpmfusion-free-rawhide)
Requires: libgcrypt.so.20
Error: Package: ffmpeg-libs-2.2-1.fc21.i686 (rpmfusion-free-rawhide)
Requires: libass.so.5
You could try using –skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va –nofiles –nodigest
Looks like you are missing a few packages. Try doing:
#yum install libass.so.5 libgrcrypt.so.20 and then retry the installation.

Hi, I installed VLC player for my fedora 20 but the problem is that i can’t see my video but the audio is working properly and i had the same case with default video player also
Not quite sure why this is happening. Might be a system issue. Try going through the system logs, that should tell you if there is any background conflict happening in the system.
How could i find system logs.. When i tried via real time application it says that ” A problem with GNOME-system log has been detected. When tried via “ls /var/log” permission denied even though i was the root user. Can you suggest any ways ..
I’m afraid then, I cannot help much here. I’d suggest checking out at the Fedora or GNOME forums to check if anybody has had any similar issues in the past.
Hi dude,
I’ve got an error message after performing the three steps described above as follows:
–> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Package: vlc-core-2.1.4-4.fc21.i686 (rpmfusion-free-rawhide)
Requires: libass.so.5
Error: Package: vlc-core-2.1.4-4.fc21.i686 (rpmfusion-free-rawhide)
Requires: libgcrypt.so.20(GCRYPT_1.6)
Error: Package: vlc-core-2.1.4-4.fc21.i686 (rpmfusion-free-rawhide)
Requires: libgcrypt.so.20
Error: Package: ffmpeg-libs-2.2.1-1.fc21.i686 (rpmfusion-free-rawhide)
Requires: libass.so.5
You could try using –skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va –nofiles –nodigest
and now, what 2 do?
I’ve been using fedora 20.
Try running: #yum install libass.so.5 libcrypt.so.20 and then retry the installation process.
Thanx Sayak for your prompt reply.
I’ve done as you told me. That’s the answer I’ve got:
No package libass.so.5 available.
No package libcrypt.so.20 available.
Error: Nothing to do
[root@localhost jek]#
Have you tried doing:-
OR if that didn’t work doing:-
and then retrying the installation?
Thanks once again!
Don’t get bored about my questions, please.
I’ve typed the two commands above and that’s the reply:
Command line error: no such option: -s
[root@localhost jek]# rpm -Va -nofiles -nodigest
rpm: -nofiles: unknown option
Is there still anything to be done?
I also tried: and that’s what I’ve got:
[root@localhost jek]# rpm -Va -nodigest
rpm: -nodigest: unknown option
[root@localhost jek]# rpm -Va

What’s next?
I’d suggest you check out the Fedora forums once and see if anyone else has faced similar issues, and see how they have solved it.
How do you run vlc when it is installed? Thanks.
It used to run on Fedora 20, when you clicked the icon, Even if you click the option ‘new window’ – still nothing.
Cannot run sudo vlc either
Alt+F2 vlc not working either
I find the same problem with half my applications now…. Rhythmbox, even Mozila, after the pc is locked, I cannot access pages that were opened….
Do I have to really go back to windows?
Many thanks, if anyone can shed light on these issues.
Stonker
Not sure why this is happening, but it might be a problem with symlinks on your machine. I’d suggest checking them out once.
hi Sarkar , i installed VLC in ma Fedora 20 , but it is not support all video format.
